The first few weeks of a baby’s life are so telling and the ideal time to schedule the newborn photography session. If you are drawn to posed baby photographs and sleepy images, then the first 7-10 days are crucial.

I prefer photographing older newborns, those that are around 3 weeks of age. Babies at this age are a little more alert. Consequently, they tend to be more awake and show their growing personalities. They are slightly older but still within the newborn stage. As a result, images created during this time result in a beautiful variety of photos. Babies may remain awake or fall asleep and moms have some time to recover after their delivery. The newborn session is typically scheduled during the maternity period and scheduled 3 weeks after the due date. Once the baby arrives then the photo session date is confirmed or adjusted if necessary.
